The Soy Controversy

My father once told me, “you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t.” This seems to be the case with nutrition these days. Many of you may have heard the reports of the health benefits of soy. Soy is a vegetable-based product that has been touted as a great replacement for animal-based products in our diet. Soy is supposed to help lower the risk of heart disease, be beneficial to cholesterol levels, and help women with their estrogen balance. However for awhile now, I have been hearing about opposition towards the use of soy. The problem seems to be that most soy is overly processed and can actually lower our level of health.

I was sent a link the other day, from the Weston A. Price Foundation, to a radio program that discussed the issue. The program was Health Talk with Dr. Ronald Hoffman on WOR Radio 710 HD. He was interviewing Dr. Kaayla T. Daniel, author of “The Whole Soy Story – The Dark Side of America’s Favorite Health Food”. The show is quite interesting and raises some questions about soy.

In the interview, Dr. Daniel states:

People think these (soy products) are health foods, but they are really high-tech foods…
